What does your PrestaShop shop have to comply with in the EU?

Two new obligations apply to every shop that sells to consumers in the European Union: the withdrawal button and the legal guarantee notice. And if you also sell to businesses, invoicing without VAT means checking their number against VIES first.

The withdrawal button the law requires

Since 19 June 2026 every online shop in the EU must offer a button to withdraw from the contract. The module adds it with its form, keeps the acknowledgement as proof and emails both your customer and you.

The EU legal guarantee notice

Since 27 September 2026 shops must show the harmonised legal guarantee notice. The module displays it with the official artwork, unedited, on the product page, in the checkout and in the order email, together with the manufacturer’s GARAN label.

Sell to businesses with intra-EU VAT

Your business customer signs up with their VAT number, the module checks it against VIES and you approve the account. From then on they buy without VAT when it applies and, if you want, only validated accounts see your catalogue and prices.

Frequently asked questions

Is a withdrawal button mandatory in my PrestaShop shop?

Yes, if you sell to consumers in the European Union. Since 19 June 2026, Directive (EU) 2023/2673 requires shops to let customers withdraw from a purchase online, with a button that stays visible for the whole withdrawal period and an acknowledgement of receipt. PrestaShop doesn’t include it out of the box: the withdrawal module adds it without touching the core.

What is the harmonised guarantee notice and when must I show it?

It is a notice with an official design, the same across the EU, that reminds consumers they have at least two years of legal guarantee. It has been mandatory since 27 September 2026, and each country sets its own penalties. The module shows it exactly as published in the Official Journal: on the product page, in the checkout and in the order email.

Can I sell without VAT to a business in another EU country?

Yes, if the business has a VAT number that is valid in VIES: the sale is reverse-charged and the invoice is issued without VAT. The B2B module checks the number against VIES when the customer signs up and only applies the exemption to those entitled to it.

Do they work on my PrestaShop version?
