Product Accessories for PrestaShop: Add-ons by Combination
For shops selling things that are bought in pairs: the case with the phone, the ink with the printer, the mounting kit with the furniture. Each product's accessories appear above the buy…
To sell PrestaShop accessories with the product, what works is putting them above the buy button, with their price and a checkbox, so they go into the cart with the same click. That way the customer buying a camera sees the memory card while they are deciding, not after they have paid and find it missing.
Think of the last order you got without the part that makes the product work: the printer without ink, the tap without hoses, the phone without a case. That customer didn't forget; they simply didn't see it in time. And whatever they don't see on the product page, they either buy somewhere else or email you about two days later.
PrestaShop has its own "Accessories" field on the product page. You link products to each other and they appear at the bottom of the page, as a strip of related products.
It's fine for showing a bit more of your catalogue, but for selling the add-on it has three problems:
With Product Accessories for PrestaShop the block sits right above "Add to cart". The customer chooses the size or dimensions as usual and, underneath, sees what goes with it: each accessory with its photo, name, price and a checkbox.
They tick the ones they want and three things happen right away:
When they click it, the product and its accessories go into the cart together, and the pop-up that opens already shows the total with everything in it. No second button, no other page. And if the product can't be added —because it has sold out, for example—, its accessories aren't added either: a charger never ends up in the cart without the phone.
You decide how they are counted. The usual choice is "the same quantity as the product": three phones, three cases. For a mounting kit or an installation service, "always one unit" makes more sense: a single kit for the whole order.
Yes, and it's what makes the biggest difference in shops with sizes, dimensions or models. Each accessory can apply to the whole product or to just one of its combinations, and you can mix them: the ones shared by every size and, on top of those, the ones for a specific size.
When the customer switches combination, the list switches with it. The 80×120 frame offers its matching cushion and the 40×60 one doesn't. In an industrial shop, the 30 mm cylinder offers its sensors and the 50 mm one offers its own, without the customer having to know which one they need.
And the accessory can also be a specific combination. You offer "the lined notebook", not "the notebook", and the customer gets exactly that one without opening its page.
Yes. Groups put a label on each set of options —"Cases", "Mounting", "Extended warranty"— and decide how many the customer can tick:
If you don't need groups, the module already comes with one, "Accessories", and you can work with just that.
They stop being offered on their own while they can't be ordered, and come back when there is stock. If a product allows orders when out of stock, it keeps showing. An accessory you have disabled doesn't appear either.
This matters so you don't promise something on the product page that you can't then deliver: the customer only sees what they can actually buy.
From the product page itself. In its modules tab you search for the accessory by name, reference or EAN, choose whether it applies to every combination or just one, pick the group, and add it. It's saved instantly and already shows in the shop.
If your catalogue is large, you don't have to go product by product. You export the links to a spreadsheet, fill it in with the references you already use in your shop and import it. The file that comes out is the same one that goes in, and anything you added by hand is left untouched.
The block doesn't bring its own design that clashes: it takes the font and colours of your theme. It works out of the box with classic and with Hummingbird, the PrestaShop 9 theme, and with themes based on them, from PrestaShop 1.7.6 to 9.
You choose where it goes: above the buy button (recommended, because that's where the decision is made), below it, or in the additional information area. And on mobile the options stack one under the other, with the checkbox within easy reach of the thumb.
displayUnderProductVariants, to place it wherever the theme wants, always inside the add-to-cart form.bkacc:selectionChanged, with the combination and the ticked accessories.Pick your five best-selling products and ask yourself what gets bought with each one. Add those accessories, see how the product page looks and, if it works, roll it out to the rest of the catalogue by spreadsheet. All of this is built into Product Accessories for PrestaShop: you'll find its page right below, with what's included, compatibility and price.
